The three tracks in the Ph.D. program (pure, applied, actuarial) each require four prelims, which are typically the following:
- Pure: Math 5111, Math 5120, Math 5210 and Math 5310.
- Applied: Math 5111, Math 5120, Math 5410 and Math 5510.
- Actuarial: Math 5160, Math 5637 and two others.
(Note: the exams for Math 5160 and Math 5637 are open ONLY to actuarial students.)
For other options, consult the PhD in mathematics page.
Please note that course numbers at UConn changed from 3 digits to 4 digits in August 2008, so prelim exams before and after this date have different numbers. E.g., Algebra used to be Math 315 and became Math 5210.
