MATH 5440: Partial Differential Equations

Description: Cauchy-Kovalevskaya Theorem, classification of second-order equations, systems of hyperbolic equations, the wave equation, the potential equation, the heat equation in Rn.

Prerequisites: MATH 5120.

MATH 5440 - Section 1: Partial Differential Equations

Description: Basic estimates for elliptic and parabolic PDE in Holder and Sobolev spaces. Including Green's function, maximum principle, Liouville theorem, Harnack inequality. sup sub solutions. direct methods, boundary integrals, Schrodinger equations, Fourier transform and multipliers. We will mainly follow a lecture notes by Sverak.
