The PageRank algorithm, developed in 1996 by the founders of Google, is one of the first and most famous algorithms Google uses to sort its search results by relevance. After setting up a few underlying rules, we will see how the problem of ranking webpages nicely blends into the study of linear algebra and discrete probability. I will present the algorithm, a simple example to show how it works, and two different methods of solving the mathematical part of the problem.
