MATH 5430: Applied Analysis
Description: Convergence of Fourier series, Legendre and Hermite polynomials, existence and uniqueness theorems, two-point boundary value problems and Green's functions.
Prerequisites: MATH 5111 and 5140 are helpful but not required.
MATH 5430 - Section 1: Applied Analysis-Nonlinear partial differential equations (Lu)
Description: We will cover a number of topics on nonlinear partial differential equations. They include: 1) eigenvalue problems of second order uniformly elliptic equations; 2) eigenvalue problems of quasilinear elliptic equations such as p-Laplace equations; 3) sub-sup solution methods for fully nonlinear differential equations; 4) Nehari manifolds and applications to PDEs; 5) Schauder fixed point theorem and Leray-Schauder degree theory.
