MATH 5031 - Section 1: Sub-Riemannian Geometry
Description: A sub-Riemannian manifold is a smooth manifold equipped with a distance measured by moving along so-called horizontal curves. One can think of a constrained movement model. Besides basic definitions and fundamental facts from the field (Hoermander's condition, Rashevskii-Chow theorem, normal and abnormal geodesics, measures on such manifolds etc), we will consider examples and explore connections to PDEs. I'll try to keep the course self-contained.
