About this course

This course covers the first half of the learning objectives for the SOA Exam MLC (Life Contingencies). The other half of the materials will be covered in Math 3631 in the Spring semester. Topics to be covered in this course include: survival distributions, life tables, life insurance, life annuities and benefit premiums.

Special announcements

8 Dec 2010 - Your Final Exam is scheduled for Monday, 13 December 2010, 6:00 - 8:00 PM. The emphasis, about 75%, will be topics covered in Chapter 7, but every material taught during the course of the semester is assumed knowledge. There will be about 12-13 questions similar in format and style to questions in Class Tests 1 and 2. Please make sure you bring your own calculators and copy of the Exam MLC Tables. Email me to arrange consultation during the weekend. Click here for previous finals. We DID NOT cover Questions 2, 6, 9, 10, 12 and 13 from the Fall 2008 Finals and Questions 2, 4, 8, and 10 from the Fall 2009 Finals. Suggested solutions will be posted Saturday, 11 December.

28 Nov 2010 - Class Test 2 distribution of marks (PDF)

7 Nov 2010 - Just a reminder: your Class Test 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, 17 November, and to be held during class hours. Please bring your own calculators and copy of the Illustrative Life Table. Test will cover all materials in Chapters 5 and 6. Previous chapters will be presumed knowledge.

2 Oct 2010 - Class Test 1 distribution of marks (PDF)

25 Sep 2010 - Your Class Test 1 is scheduled for Wednesday, 29 September, and to be held during class hours. Please bring your own calculators and copy of the Illustrative Life Table. Test will cover all materials in Chapters 3 and 4.

16 Sep 2010 - Get to know the table available to you during the exam: Exam MLC Tables, which include the Illustrative Life Table.
