Textbook: Elementary Mathematical Modeling: Functions and Graphs by Mary Ellen Davis and C. Henry Edwards.
Exams: There will be two in-class exams this semester and one final exam on the following dates:
Exam 1Friday, September 29
Exam 2Wednesday, November 8
Final Exam TBA (Week of December 11-16)
Quizzes: Each Monday there will be a short (approx. 10 min) quiz given at the start of class. Each quiz is worth 10 points, and the two lowest quiz grades will be dropped at the end of the semester. No makeup quizzes will be given.
Projects: A project will be assigned each Friday and due the following Friday at the beginning of class. Each project consists of several problems applying concepts from homework and lecture. You may discuss the projects with others in the class, but you must hand in your own work.
Homework: After each class period, you will be assigned exercises in the textbook to be done as homework problems. Homework will not be collected, but it is extremely important that you work through the homework problems and understand the concepts. You will be expected to know the material covered in the homework problems for the quizzes and exams, so it is to your advantage to do them.
Grading Policy: Your grade will be calculated as follows:

Two In-Class Exams 50%
Quizzes 10%
Projects 10%
Final Exam 30%
Calculators: A graphing calculator can be an important tool in mathematical modeling. It is strongly recommended that you have a graphing calculator (TI 82 or 83, for example) and bring it to each class. Calculators will not be required for quizzes or tests.
Academic Integrity: Academic misconduct of any kind will not be tolerated. Cheating on any assignment will result in a zero grade for that assignment, and a possible fail for the entire course. For a full explanation of the policies, see the following web page: http://www.sp.uconn.edu/~ml201vc/misconduct.html.
Tutoring: Free tutoring is available at the Q-Center. Check their web site, http://www.qcenter.uconn.edu, for more information (such as location and times).
