Textbook: PProblem SSSolving by DeFranco and Vinsonhaler.
Attendance: You are expected to come to class. Since you will be working in groups throughout the semester, your attendance is extremely important. An attendance sheet will be passed out at the beginning of each class. If you need to leave early for any reason (unless it is an emergency), please let me know before the start of class.
Exams: There will be two in-class exams this semester, on the following dates: February 16 and April 6.
Homework: Homework will be assigned and collected each week. You should write up your solutions neatly, using complete sentences. Typing your assignment is preferred but not required. You should focus not just on getting the correct answer, but HOW you got the answer. Any answer without an explanation will not receive credit. You may work with other students in the class, but submit individual write-ups. Send me an e-mail or see me during office hours if you need help on any assignment.
NO late assignments will be collected.
Group Projects: You will be assigned projects during the semester to be worked on in groups. One write-up will be submitted per group. (Refer to page 89 in the textbook for a checklist of questions to answer in your write-ups.) The projects will be graded on accuracy, creativity, and presentation. Additional time outside of class with your group may be needed to complete the projects. Groups may be asked to present their projects to the class.
Grading Policy: Your grade will be calculated as follows:

Two In-Class Exams 20%
Homework / Classwork 50%
Group Projects 15%
Final Exam 15%
Extra Credit: Occasionally extra credit will be offered. These opportunities will be announced in class.
Tutoring: Free tutoring is available at the Q-Center. Check their web site, http://www.qcenter.uconn.edu, for more information (such as location and times).
