Announcements Archive:
Here are all the announcments that have been posted on this site, starting with the earliest. Ah, memories!
- First class meets Wednesday, January 23rd at 9am in MSB 415
- The first quiz of the semester will be Wednesday, January 30th at the beginning of class. It will cover the homework from sections 1.1 and 1.2
- I have put up a feedback page on the site (get to it under the links below). If you have any suggestions on how I can improve the course, please use that form. It is completely anonymous, so you can be completely honest.
- I have added a "grades" page to the website. Now you can check your current grade, as well as make sure I have everything recorded correctly. You will need to log on with your last name and student number.
- Class is canceled for Wednesday, Feb 13 due to weather. We will have the quiz covering 1.7, 1.8, and 1.9 on Friday, Feb 15. We will discuss what to do about the upcoming exam then as well. Enjoy your (partial) day off.
- I have put a sample exam in the new "Handouts""" section of the website. I make no guarantees how similar it will be to our exam
- Yes, we will have a quiz on Wednesday, February 20th, even though the exam is the following class period.
- Midterm Exam 1: Friday, February 22nd (in class). The exam will cover everything we have done so far this semester (so through section 2.2).
- Since the university is closed on Friday, we will have our Midterm Exam 1 on Monday, February 25th (in class). Lucky you - a whole 3 extra days to study. Enjoy the snow.
- You can get some points back on the exam as follows: completely rework all problems (or parts) you got wrong, and turn your corrections in along with your original exam. You can get up to 1/3 of the points you missed back (but only by completing all the corrections). Due Friday, March 7th.
- The quiz on Wednesday, March 5th, will cover 3.1 and 3.2
- Looking at the course webpage during spring break? That's dedication. You deserve extra credit. Email me by Saturday, March 15th, to get some extra points.
- Next Quiz: Wednesday, March 19. Covers 3.3, 4.1, and 4.2
- Exam 2 is almost here: Friday, April 4th in class.
- To encourage you to really do all the homework, I will be collecting some homework assignment for extra credit throughout the rest of the semester. I won't tell you which ones, but if I do collect an assignment, it will be the one that was due that day, as listed in the homework section of this website.
- Exam 2 is scheduled for this Friday: April 4th. It will cover chapters 3 and 4 (through 4.6). Review materials are now available under "Handouts".
- This week, instead of our regular Wednesday, inclass quiz, I am giving you a take home quiz. (I handed it out in class on Monday, but if you weren't there, you can find it in the "Handouts" section of the webpage.) The quiz is due Friday, April 11.
- Reminder: Quiz on Wednesday, April 16. It will cover section 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3
- So I lied to you in class on Wednesday. When performing the Gram-Schmidt process, you must use the v_1, v_2,...v_(p-1) you found in the previous step to find v_p. You cannot use x_1, x_2,...,x_(p-1). Take a look at page 404 for the correct formula. Sorry for the confusion.
- Bring a No. 2 pencil to class on Monday, April 28th. It will be useful in filling out the course/instructor evaluations.
- There is a topics list and practice final available in the handouts page. I will post solutions to the practice exam by Wednesday.
- My office hours for the week of finals are as follows: Monday, 1-2; Wednesday, 1-2; Thursday, 1-4. I am also available by appointment, so don't hesitate to ask.
- I put up an answer key to the sample final exam on the handouts page. There is also a topics list there. On Friday we will spend the whole class reviewing, so come with lots of questions.
- I graded your last quiz and have posted your grades. Since this was the last graded assignment before the final exam, I have included in your grade reports a table of what you would get depending on what you get on the final.
- Our Final Exam is scheduled for Friday, May 9th at 10:30 am in MSB 415
- You finals are graded and your course grades have been calculated. Check out how you did by logging on to the grades page. If I have anything wrong, please email me before Sunday, May 11 at 10:00am, as that is when I'll be uploading the grades to peoplesoft.
- That's it folks. Thank you all for a very enjoyable semester. Have a great summer.
