Exam 2 Topics
Mathematics 105Q
Spring 2006
These text sections will be covered on the exam: 2.6, 2.7, 3.1, 3.2,
3.3, 4.1, and 5.1. You will need to know the formulas for simple interest,
compound interest, and effective interest rate.
á
Translate
a word problem into a system of linear inequalities. Find the corner points
(using algebra - you may use your
graphing calculator to check your results, but only the algebra you do will
count). And draw a sketch of the feasible set. Sample problem: p. 213/14.
á
Input-output
analysis: Find the production matrix, given the external demands. Sample
problems: p. 158/5, 11a.
á
Given
inequalities describing a set of points in a Cartesian coordinate plane, find
the extreme values of a certain linear function on the set. Sample problem: p.
213/6.
á
Find an
inverse matrix. Sample problem: p.146/9.
á
Apply the
Simplex Method, showing how the pivot entry was chosen and carrying out the
pivoting process (row operations). Interpret the final tableau. Sample problem:
p. 233/6.
á
Calculations:
a future value at simple interest credited yearly, finding the annual rate when
the other quantities are given, a future value at compound interest (more than
one interest period per year), and an effective annual rate (expressed as a per
cent).
Sample problems: p. 289/2, 9; p. 332/1, 3.
