We will look carefully at a few polynomial equations and attempt to find all of their integer solutions. For instance, what are all the integer solutions to y2 = x3 − 2? In general, finding all the integer solutions to equations of this kind can be extremely difficult, but we will see that by using “prime factorization” in a very clever way, a great deal of information can be teased out of these equations.
