Abstract

SET is a card game invented by a population geneticist, Marsha Jean Falco, in 1974. Though simple to learn and play, the game has a rich mathematical structure linking it to combinatorics, geometry and the theory of error-correcting codes. After learning the game, we will examine some of the mathematics. No background is necessary, although familiarity with addition and multiplication modulo 3 will be helpful.
