Textbook: Linear Algebra and Its Applications, 3rd edition, updated  by David C. Lay (Pearson/Addison-Wesley, 2006); ISBN 0-321-28713-4 

Course Description:  This course provides an introduction to the concepts and techniques of Linear Algebra. This includes the study of matrices and their relation to linear equations, linear transformations, vector spaces, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and orthogonality. 


Quizzes:

There will be a 10 minutes quiz on every Thursday’s class (with some exceptions). I will tell you in advance if there is a quiz and what is the content it based on.

 

Homework:

Generally 2-4 problems selected from Suggested homework set will be assigned after each class.   Those homework problems will be collected on every Next Tuesday's class.    It is strongly suggested that you study all the problems in the Suggested homework set.   

Exams

There will be two midterm exams and a final exam. Each midterm will be given during lecture time. The following dates are tentative. Make sure to attend lectures to here any changes.

Midterm 1 will be on Thursday, Oct 1st.

Midterm 2 will be Tuesday, Nov, 10th.

The schedule of final exam will be announced later.

Grading. The final semester grade will be determined using the following method

Hw/Quizzes 15%; Midterm: each 25%; Final Exam: 35%

 

Makeups:

There is no make-ups for quizzes due to the reason that only the best a few scores from your quizzes are used to compute your final grade. Makeup exams will only be given in extreme cases such as a true emergency or illness.
