Math 1132 Sections 31-37
Fall 2009

Exams:
Quizzes : A quiz is a short exam. In these sections there will be a weekly quiz at the beginning of class. These will usually be closely based on the recent homework. The dates for quizzes will be available from discussion leaders and will be announced well in advance of the quiz date. There will be no make-ups.
Midterm Exams: There will be two midterm exams, These are lengthy exams given, as scheduled on peoplesoft, on the evening of October 6 and November 10 from 6--8 PM. Make-ups for students with verified conflicts, will be given immediatly after the regular time, from 8--10 PM; permission from your instructor is required. Rooms will be listed, by section, on the main class page. Be sure to go to the room for which your section is scheduled.
Final exam : There will be a final exam covering all the material of the course. The final exam will take place Friday, Dec. 18 1:00-3:00pm.
Homework: There will be regular homework assignments, to be completed over the internet with webassign. Each problem has a fixed value that is clearly indicated. You have five tries at each problem. If you get one wrong then webassign tells you it's wrong and when you try again the point value of the problem will sometimes be reduced by fixed percent (each try). I recommend that you print out a copy of your homework and work on it away from the computer before going back and inputing your answers.
Gateways: The gateway exam is a test of basic integration skills. The exam will be given around October 1. If you do not pass, then you will have an opportunity to retake the exam, on line in the Mathematics Mac Lab (MSB 203). The exam can be retaken as often as needed up through October 30.  Practice versions of the gateway exam are available along with the homework, through WebAssign and will be graded online. Calculators are not allowed to be used while taking these exams.

If you do not pass the gateway by October 30 then you have failed the gateway. The consequence of failing the gateway is that your final grade, based on the exams, quizzes, projects and homeworks, will be reduced by a full letter. You do not want to fail the gateway
