Students majoring in another department within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or in another college
within the University may elect to minor in mathematics. The minor is designed to give students a solid
foundation in mathematics as well as some experience in the discipline at an advanced level.
The University requires that at least 15 credits of 2000-level courses be taken for the minor in courses specified
by the granting department, that each course being used for the minor have a grade of C (2.0) or better and
that no substitutions from the department's stated requirements are allowed.
The minor is described in more detail in the
Course Catalog.

The department requirements for the minor are:
- Track 1: Five courses from the following:
- Math 2110Q (210Q) (or Math 2130Q (230Q) or Math 2143Q (245Q),
- Math 2210Q (227Q) (or Math 3210Q (215Q) or Math 2144Q (246Q)),
- Math 2360Q (223Q),
- Math 2410Q (211Q) (or Math 2420Q (221Q) or Math 2144Q (246Q)),

or
- Track 2:
- Math 2141Q (243Q), Math 2142Q (244Q), Math 2143Q (245Q) and Math 2144Q (246Q)
Note: Track 2 is a rigorous and challenging sequence in single and multivariable calculus aimed at highly motivated first-year students with strong backgrounds. Students who don't have outstanding math skills or who have completed a different calculus sequence already should follow Track 1 for the math minor.
Some accommodations will be made for those who start Track 2 and who wish to change to Track 1.
Please contact the department for more information as indicated below.
Math Minor Form
The earliest the
Math Minor Form can be filled out is once you have registered for
the last class you will use for the minor; the latest is about half-way through
your last semester before graduating with the associated bachelor's degree.
With the information you enter on the form, we will create a final minor plan of study
and email it (in pdf format) directly to the university degree auditors. We will also cc you at the
email addresses you enter on the form so you will have a copy for your records and confirmation
that the minor plan of study submission was completed.
Math 2000-Level Course Prerequisites
The prerequisite for Math 2000-level courses is
Math 1132Q or Math 1152Q. For this reason, students intending to minor in
mathematics using Track 1 should take either
- Math 1131Q and Math 1132Q, or
- Math 1125Q, Math 1126Q and Math 1132Q, or
- Math 1151Q and Math 1152Q
as early in their career as possible.
