Directions to UConn from Providence
Driving Directions
-
Take Route 6 west out of Providence. Stay on Route 6 (it's a long slog) until you reach an exit labeled Route 195/Univ. of Connecticut. (Shortly before that exit the road splits and you stay on the right fork to remain on Route 6 -- the sign overhead says Hartford -- rather than go on the left fork which would be Route 66.) At the end of the exit ramp is a traffic light. Take a right and you'll soon reach a T-intersection at another traffic light. You are facing Route 195.
Take a left, which puts you on Route 195 North.
- Route 195 North will take you directly to the campus, which is about 6 miles down the road from your turn onto Route 195. If, during the drive, you are wondering if you're going the right way, feel free to pull over and ask in a store if you're going the right way towards UConn.
- Eventually the trees fall away and you will see lots of buildings and a high school on the left, and you pass by some stores on your right. The campus area is coming up just ahead, mostly on your left.
- To show you what the local area is like, look at a campus map here.
- You'll be on Route 195 coming in from the left edge of the
map (which in this area is called Storrs Road) and you stay on this road until you almost reach the other side of campus, where you take a left onto North Eagleville Road (there is a traffic light and a church at this corner with Route 195) and then drive along North Eagleville with the main campus on your left (some campus buildings will be on your right too). Take a left at the second set of traffic lights, which is only 100 feet or so past the first set of traffic lights after the crest of a hill.
- This second light is the intersection of North Eagleville and North Hillside. The left turn here will take you into the campus proper (there'll be a big
blue sign "Univ. of CT" at the entrance). As you turn into campus,
there is a parking garage ahead on your left and a large open parking lot on your right. The parking garage is marked
NPRK (=North Parking Structure) on the map. It costs money, but no
more than a few dollars and the department can validate the parking
stub you'll pick up when you go into the garage so you needn't pay at
all. (Rates for the parking garage can be found
here.)
To get into the garage, drive all the way up to the stop sign and take a
left. You'll then be driving along the front of the garage and the entrance is at the far end. The open parking lot does not require a permit after 4 PM or on weekends, so you can use it during those times without getting a ticket. But during regular business hours (before 4 PM) you should use the parking garage.
- The Math building is MSB, which is right below NPRK as part of the PB/MSB/GANT/IMS collection of buildings. Enter MSB and take the elevator
to the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th floors, which is where faculty offices are.
