Materials for Teaching Recommendations

by Sarah Glaz

I am on sabbatical during the 2009-2010 academic year, and cannot write any new teaching recommendation letters. If you need such a letter please consult with your advisor and Professor Ron Blei.

If you are a good teacher I will be happy to write a recommendation about your teaching in support of your job application. For a recommendations to carry any weight it must be written by a professors who knows you well professionally. In order to know you even better than I already do, and write the best  recommendation I can on your behalf, I need you to give me the following materials:

  • Your Curriculum Vita.
  • Your Teaching Statement.
  • Your Research Statement (optional).
  • A list of all the courses you have taught, with institutions and dates.
  • A list of all teaching awards you have received, or special teaching-related activities you have been involved in through the years.
  • A complete set of your Teaching Evaluation summaries (numerical) at UConn.
  • Selected Teaching Evaluation Comments (copies of the originals you received from the registrar office) from students that show an appreciation for your teaching. You may also include, any e-mails or letters from students thanking you for being a great teacher.
  • If possible, write a mock recommendation about you mentioning all your strong points (optional).
I will return your materials back to you after I finish writing your recommendation.

Good Luck with your job applications!
