Course description and goals:
The course will begin with a review of functions. We will then introduce the concepts of limit, continuity, and differentiation. We will finish with a detailed look at several rules of differentiation, and their applications. A graphing calculator is required for the course (TI 82, 83, 85 or 86 are recommended - I use a TI-83). The graded work will consist of quizzes, homeworks, projects, a gateway exam, two regular exams, and a final exam. The gateway exam MUST be passed (60% or higher score) in order to pass the course. It can be taken more than once, with the highest grade being recorded. Calculators are not allowed for the gateway.

Announcements and materials:
Check here regularly for study materials and announcements about the course.

   Exam 3 in PDF format.

   Exam 2 in PDF format.

(05/05/04) The final course grades have been posted to PeopleSoft. Have a great summer!

(04/30/04) Any unsubmitted homeworks can be turned in to me by Monday morning for half credit.

(04/20/04) The final exam will be given Monday May 3rd at 10:30am in ITE C80.

(04/14/04) Exam 3 will be given next week, Tuesday April 20th, and will cover up through Section 3.6.

(03/14/04) Exam 2 will be given next week, Thursday March 25th, and will cover up through Section 2.5

(02/10/04) The solutions for Chapter 1 in the solutions manual are incorrect. You can find the correct solutions at the general Math 112 webpage .

(01/28/04) The Math Center in MSB 119 will start offering peer tutoring Sunday, Feb. 1. The hours of operation will be 3:00-9:00pm Sunday - Thursday.

(01/25/04) I will be adding due dates to the homework list at the bottom of the page. Check it often.

(01/20/04) We will not be using e-grade. You will instead submit your homeworks in the usual written format. I believe this will make things easier on you, as entering the answers into e-grade is tedious, and no partial credit is possible. The homework assignments remain the same.

(12/30/03) The first day of classes is Tuesday January 20th!

Late/Absent policy:
Assignments will not be accepted late, except in case of an institution-excused absence.

Grading policy:
The final course grade will break up as follows:
  • Quizzes, Projects, Homework: 25%
  • Gateway and two regular exams: 45%
  • Final Exam: 30%
I will drop the lowest project grade and the lowest homework grade at the end of the semester, before calculating the final grade.

    In-class behavior:
I expect students to arrive on time, to be prepared and respectful during all class meetings, and to leave only when I have dismissed the class. If you absolutely must leave early, speak to me before class. Keep your cell phones silenced at all times. You will not be allowed to use them in any manner during quizzes or exams. Feel free to interrupt me during lecture with pertinent questions. I will designate specific class time for answering homework questions.

    Academic misconduct:
Academic misconduct of any kind will not be tolerated. Cheating on any assignment will result in an undroppable non-negotiable zero grade for that assignment, and a possible failing grade for the entire course. For more information, see Uconn policy on academic misconduct.
