Apollonius of Perga (circa 250-200 BC) studied methods of circle packing, such as finding two circles which are mutually tangent to three other circles. His solution was lost, but later scientists (including Newton) developed techniques to solve it. In this talk, we will learn how to generate the fractal known as the Apollonian gasket, which is the infinite iteration of this circle packing procedure.
