In the Spring of 2005, the department switched to Macintosh G5 in Spring 2004. Under the hood, Mac OS X is really a variant of FreeBSD UNIX. Whenever you open a Terminal or an X Term on your Mac, you have access to the (rather powerful) Unix command line. Below is a list of useful UNIX resources.
