Undergraduate Computer Lab
Facilities
The Mathematics Department Macintosh Lab is located in room M203 on the second floor of the Mathematical
Sciences Building. The lab has 33 Apple PowerPC G5 1.8GHz computers with CD-RW drives
An HP LaserJet 4100 DTN and HP Designjet 5600 are available for printing.
Lab Policies
-
Due to the severe budget cuts in the 2008/2009 school year, the primary function of the lab is for online testing
for courses in Mathematics.
- The laboratory is not available to the general public except when the lab is open for
online testing and the demand for testing is low.
- Students taking online tests using WebAssign have priority over other student use.
- Faculty may schedule sessions for use in their courses as needed, providing advanced notice has been posted.
Printing Policy
- Printing is free for Mathematics faculty and Mathematics graduate students.
- Printing is also free for undergraduate students for work in a Mathematics course.
- Printing is only allowed for Mathematics courses, printing for other courses is prohibited.
Software
The Lab has much useful software for mathematical work. The list includes:
- Maple (Computer algebra system)
- Mathematica (Computer algebra system)
- Matlab (Matrix computations)
- GAP (Algebra package)
- TexShop (TeX Mathematical typesetting system)
- Differential Systems
- Microsoft Office OS-X 2001
Access
The lab environment has been specifically designed with the teaching of our courses in mind. All of the Macintosh
computers in this lab provide a consistent user interface to courseware and application software.
There is no public access for the 2008/2009 school year due to budget cuts for lab staff.
Hours of Operation
No schedule is available at this point.
Notes:
The lab is available primarily for online testing in Mathematics courses for the 2008/2009 school year.
Mathematics graduate students and faculty have keycard 24/7 access.
