M.S. in Mathematics Requirements

To graduate with an M.S. in Mathematics, the student has to satisfy all of the following requirements:

  • Satisfactorily complete a minimum of 24 credits (about 8 classes) in courses approved by the student's advisory committee.
  • Do One of the following:
    • Pass an oral exam; typically taken during the last semester of the study.
    • Pass two prelims of the Ph.D. in Mathematics program.
    • Write a Master's Thesis. In this case, the student only needs to complete only 15-20 credits of course work. Your thesis advisor should be chosen among the graduate faculty.
