The Early College Experience Program in
Mathematics
Since 1955, the University has offered some of its courses to superior
high school students through the
Early College Experience (ECE)
Program
(since 2005, the name for the former High-School Cooperative Program).
Currently available at more than 100 Connecticut high schools, the
program offers a wide range of lower-division courses to students who
have exhibited the talent and dedication to study university-level
material while still in high school.
At present approximately 58 Connecticut high schools participating in
the ECE Mathematics Program. The courses available are:
- Math 103Q, Discrete Mathematics
- Math 107Q, Elementary Mathematical Modeling
- Math 112Q, Introductory Calculus 1
- Math 113Q, Introductory Calculus 2
- Math 115Q, Calculus I
- Math 116Q, Calculus II.
The Math 112Q-113Q correspond roughly to the Calculus AB and
Math 115Q-116Q correspond roughly to the Calculus BC courses of the
Advanced Placement Program.
For the Academic Year 2006-2008, there were 1520 students who took ECE
Mathematics courses during the year in 108 classes across the state. In
the vast majority of these classes, 100 of them, one of the two
calculus sequences were taught.
