Calculus I, Early Transcendentals, Single Variable by William Briggs and Lyle Cochran (1st Edition), bundled with MyMathLabPlus code, i>clicker rebate coupon and Just In Time refresher text.


Graphing calculators (TI 82, 83, 85 or 86 recommended).

You can buy the bundled version of Early Transcendentals, Single Variable by Briggs and Cochran at the UConn Coop or online directly from the publilsher. The unbundled version can be obtained many places but the cost of buying the unbundled text and needed components separately may be significantly greater. CAUTION: Make sure you get a MyMathLabPlus code bundled with the text otherwise the code will have to be purchased separately. Do not confuse MyMathLabPlus with another online system sold by the same publisher (called MyMathLab) The single variable volume is used for both Math 1131 and Math 1132. You will need to purchase the multivariable volume for Math 2110. However, you are able to purchase a combined version (heavy book for 1131-1132-2110)

The publisher has set up a special web page, UConn students to purchase a text online with the MyMathlab plus codes bundled.


i>clicker Registration:

          Clickers will be used in the lectures beginning week 1. You must register your i>clicker by visiting www.iclicker.com and follow the instructions below.
  • Click Register Your i>clicker button.
  • Enter your First Name and Last Name in the appropriate field.
  • Enter your people soft ID. This is the student ID field in the form.
  • Enter your i>clicker remote ID. The remote ID is the 8-character alphanumeric code printed below the barcode on the back of your remote.
  • Enter the letters or numbers in the captcha security image on the screen. This verification image is a slightly distored series of characters used to prevent spam bots from submitting the form.
  • Click the 'Enter' button. An on-screen message confirms that registration was successful.


    Homework and MyMathLab Plus:

             

    Homework: There will be homework assignments for each section of the text. Each assignment will be made available on MyMathLab Plus several days before the section is covered in class. The due date for each assignment will be set by your instructor and will generally be two or three days after the material is covered in class. You will get 5 attempts to answer each none multiple choice question and two attempts for each multiple choice question. After each attempt, you will be told whether your answer is correct or not. If you are not able to get the correct answer after your initial attempts, we recommend that you seek help from your instructor, the Q-Center, a tutor, or another student.

             

    Quizzes: There will be a quiz on each homework assignment. These quizzes will be timed assignments on MyMathLab Plus and will generally be due one day after the homework assignment. There may be additional quizzes in the discussion sections.

              Mymathlab Plus Registration: The homework for Math 1131 is assigned online using the Mylabsplus online home work system. To access your homework online you must go to uconn.mylabsplus.com. Key points to remember:
    • If you purchased the text book from Uconn bookstore, you will see an access code for Mylabsplus. You will need this access code when you login.
    • To login in to the acccount visit uconn.mylabsplus.com.
    • Username is the first part of your uconn email id: example1: john.smith@uconn.edu, the username is john.smith, example2: jane.m.mary@uconn.edu user name will be jane.m.mary. Password is "letmein".
    • Change your password by choosing the "myprofile" tab when you login.
    • When you click on "MML Homework", you will be asked to enter your access code. If for any reason you do not have an access code you can request an temporary access code by clicking on "Temporary Access". The code will be given to instantaneously. This code is vaild for 17 days after which you will need to have brought an access code to continue using the online system.

    Note: Failure to pass the Gateway Exam will lower the course grade by one full letter grade.

    The evening exams will be held in rooms listed that will be listed here later. The dates and times are listed in PeopleSoft, but not the rooms. Common make-up exams will be held from 8-11 pm on the same days as the exams. Permission from your instructor is required.


    Gateway Exam

    The gateway exam will be available in the Mathematics MacLab (MSB 203) on MymathlabsPlus beginning around October 20. There will be an open period from October 20 through November 17 during which the gateway exam may be repeated (as often as needed) in the MacLab (MSB 203). Practice versions of the gateway exam may be taken online from MyMathLab Plus. These practice versions are from the same test bank as the actual exams and will be graded online.

    • Calculators are NOT allowed.
    • Pass/fail exam.
    • Exam on MyMathlab Plus in MacLab (MSB 203) through November 17.
