Opportunities to Contribute

Introduction
The Department of Mathematics provides an excellent academic experience for its students at both the Graduate and Undergraduate levels. The philanthropic support of donors, including our alumni, friends and corporations, is needed to enhance that experience, strengthening and expanding teaching, research and outreach programs, nurturing curriculum development and faculty research while funding student scholarships and technology enhancements.

Gifts of all types and sizes are of vital importance to the Department of Mathematics.

Math Department Funds
Contributions may be donated through the following funds:

  • The Louis J. DeLuca Memorial Fund supports the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award each year. Lou was legendary for his devotion to and excellence in teaching, and he also served as Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His death in 1986 saddened us greatly and left a large void.
  • The Constance Strange Memorial Fund sponsors the Graduate Student Community Service Award each year. Connie Strange was the long-time Department secretary in charge of the graduate program, and in addition provided a great deal of personal support and encouragement to our students. Her valiant struggle against breast cancer ended in 1996.
  • The Richard L. "Dick" London Fund is currently being formed to honor the long-time director of the Actuarial Science Program, who is retiring after this spring 2005 semester. Proceeds from the fund will go to scholarships for actuarial science majors.
  • The General Mathematics Fund is used to sponsor miscellaneous items of importance to the department such as this newsletter and awards to outstanding students.
  • The Center for Actuarial Studies Fund supports scholarships for actuarial majors.
  • The CIGNA Actuarial Science Fund supports scholarships for actuarial majors.
  • The Gordon Aston Actuarial Science Fund supports scholarships for actuarial majors.
  • The Mathematics Actuarial Science Fund supports activities associated with the Actuarial Science Program.
  • The Mathematics Graduate Scholarship Fund is used to provide scholarships for outstanding mathematics graduate students.
