Awards Day and the Second Mathematics Department Distinguished Alumni Award

Awards Day Presentations

Awards were given to undergraduate and graduate students who distinguished themselves either academically or through their service to the department. New PiMuEpsilon were also honored.

The awards presentation was followed by a special speaker, Professor Thomas Pietraho of Bowdoin College, who spoke on "No Statistician Left Behind; How (not) to Measure the Student Achievement Gap."

Distinguished Alumni Award

The Second Mathematics Department Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Professor Robert Makuch of the Yale University School of Public Health, a 1972 graduate of the University of Connecticut Mathematics Department.

The Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Professor Makuch during a reception and dinner at the Alumni Center.

During the event, Professor Makuch talked about his time at UConn, his life and work.
