Thursday, April 26, 2012

Awards Day Presentations

Awards were given to undergraduate and graduate students who distinguished themselves either academically or through their service to the department. New Pi Mu Epsilon were also honored.

The awards presentation was followed by a talk by Michael Zieve (Univ. Michigan), who spoke on "Square Values of Polynomials."

McCabe lecture

The McCabe Lecture in Entrepreneurship and the Mathematical Sciences on "Google's Early Days" was given by Ray Sidney, who was introduced by Thomas McCabe. The video can be seen here

During the event, Sidney talked about how he landed a position at Google and what the atmosphere was like there in its first years. He and McCabe took audience questions afterwards.
