He writes: "It was really 'easy' math....Debits equal Credits. But I came up with a variation on that theorem... Debits equal Credits, and if they don't, PLUG the difference to a Suspense Account. Every accounting department has a group of people who do nothing but hunt and peck and search through suspense accounts to find out where that 'money' really belongs. I think the Business School should have a course devoted fully to Suspense Account accounting; what they are, why they are, how to 'fix' them, and how to control them. Math Connections had an article about the Master's Degree in Applied Financial Mathematics. Of my 37 years in accounting, 25 were in the Investment Accounting Department, and keeping up with the mathematics that operates behind the 'latest and greatest' investments, especially derivatives, that our Investment Department purchased was always a challenge, but one that brought a great deal of intellectual satisfaction." He retired from The Hartford on April Fools Day, 2007 and is enjoying retirement. His daughter graduated UConn in 2007 as a Music Ed major, where she was a member of the Marching Band for four years.
