Text:

Calculus, Early Transcendentals, Volume 2  by James Stewart  (6th  Edition), with WebAssign code.

You can buy the Stewart text at the UConn Coop, online directly from the publisher (with a discount – see Math 116 class web page), and many other places.  CAUTION:  Make sure you get a WebAssign code bundled with the text as they cost  $25 when purchased separately. Volume 1 of Stewart is used only for Math 115.  You will need Volume 2 for Math 116 and the multivariable volume for Math 210.  Combined versions with multiple WebAssign codes are available online from the publisher.

Calculators will be used  (TI 82, 83, 85 or 86 recommended)

Exams:

There will be two 90 minute evening exams on February 26 at 6 PM and April 8 at 6 PM. These are common exams, to be taken by all sections of Math 116. Unless something changes, the evening exams will be held in CAST 212 from 6-8 pm. Common make-up exams will be held from 8-11 pm on the same days as the exams. You need my permission to take the make-up.

There will be several short, in class quizzes.

The Gateway Exam is a test of basic integration skills. It is a pass/fail exam and failure to pass it will lower the course grade by one full letter grade!

It will be available in the Mathematics MacLab (MSB 203) using WebAssign beginning March 3.  There will be an open period from March 3  through April 7 during which the gateway exam may be repeated (as often as needed) in the Mac Lab.
Practice versions of the gateway exam may be taken online from WebAssign. Calculators are NOT allowed.

There will be a common final exam on May 6 at 10:30 AM.

Homework on WebAssign:

Homeworks will be submitted online using WebAssign. There will be a homework assignment for each section of the text.  Each assignment will be made available on WebAssign several days before the section is covered in class.  The DUE DATE for an assignment will be visible on your webassign page and will generally be a couple of days after the material is covered in class.  You will get 5 attempts to answer each question.  After each attempt you will be told whether your answer is correct or not.  Full solutions will be available on WebAssign soon after the due date.

You will need a login ID and password from your instructor, plus a WebAssign code to register online.   Change your passwork immediately by going to “My Options”. Follow the links above to webassign.

You can get help using WebAssign from your instructor or at the Q-Center. If you are not able to get the correct answer after two or three attempts, we recommend that you seek help from your instructor, the Q-Center, a tutor, or another student.
